Brief summary:
Wednesday 29.04.09 : various boat jobs including attention to the main halyard at the top of the mast (26 metres), then shore leave when crew enjoyed exploring Bayona by day and visited the castle and huge statue until 14.30 hrs ready for departure at 15.00 hrs. Terrific sail to Vigo with all crew on deck in “Rona Racing Mode”, during which we caught up and overtook sailing yacht Jolie Brise celebrated by a Mexican wave by the whole crew on the weather rail. At 16.50 hrs we secured alongside yacht Urania in Vigo.
Rona II was then dressed with all flags, Tall Ships’ year flags and bimini ready for the 1st party on board. After excellent meal by Red watch, shore leave until 23.00 hrs when the 1st party started with the whole crew in good voice and jubilant spirit, during which we entertained 2 crew members (Bianca and her chaperone David) from Urania and their skipper.

Tuesday 28.04.09 day spent spinnaker training for all three watches close to Bayona. Excellent meal prepared by blue watch followed by whole crew including Chris Atherton who had just arrived enjoying drinks together at the Club de Yates yacht club.

Pontevedra. Good marina and facilities with friendly staff and club bar on 3rd floor of clubhouse with excellent views.
Monday 27.04.09 11.15 hrs departed from Marina Sanxenxo in Ria de Pontevedra for
sail training especially for spinnakers including cruising chute, asymmetric, light
weather spinnaker, heavy weather spinnaker and snuffers. Also passage to Bayona.
Monday 27.04.09 17.30 hrs arrived at Club de Yates in Bayona. Approx 10 miles
south-west of Vigo. Just in time for feast on board prepared by White Watch (Daz).

Weather: AM – Started off rainy, miserable and bit of wind. Sea state was lumpy with at times large bow waves soaking crew.
PM – After passing the end of the world (Cabo Finisterre) as predicted by skipper became blue skies and sunny with NW F4 and a terrific sail to Muros
Distance travelled 608 nautical miles – NB broken through 600nm barrier

The crew of Rona II are still in La Coruna and in good spirit.

Rona is in Spain
Just a quick update to report that Rona II arrived in La Coruna this morning at 0830 after a fantastic sail across the Bay of Biscay. The skipper reports that the boat was magnificant and he couldn't ask for a better crew!
They will now have a days rest and the opportunity to shower before moving on tomorrow.

Position Lat 46 52 80 Long 005 10 70. Approximately 1/4 way across Bay of Biscay. Heading for Gigon. North Spain. Weather fair/sunny. Under Sail: Main, mizzen and spinnaker. Distance travelled 280 nautical miles.
Brief summary: Left Hamble Thursday 1400 hrs. Arrived Weymouth (43 miles) Thursday 23.30hrs. Skipper authorised Happy Hour.
Friday morning: tidy up boat, showers (last for a while!), shopping and shore leave. Friday 1500hrs left Weymouth, destination Spain.

1 Day to go
