In Vigo alongside sailing yacht Urania –Royal Netherlands Navy
Weather: Sunny
Distance travelled 727 nautical miles
Brief summary:
Wednesday 29.04.09 : various boat jobs including attention to the main halyard at the top of the mast (26 metres), then shore leave when crew enjoyed exploring Bayona by day and visited the castle and huge statue until 14.30 hrs ready for departure at 15.00 hrs. Terrific sail to Vigo with all crew on deck in “Rona Racing Mode”, during which we caught up and overtook sailing yacht Jolie Brise celebrated by a Mexican wave by the whole crew on the weather rail. At 16.50 hrs we secured alongside yacht Urania in Vigo.
Rona II was then dressed with all flags, Tall Ships’ year flags and bimini ready for the 1st party on board. After excellent meal by Red watch, shore leave until 23.00 hrs when the 1st party started with the whole crew in good voice and jubilant spirit, during which we entertained 2 crew members (Bianca and her chaperone David) from Urania and their skipper.
Yellow shirt award-whole crew votes everyday for crew member doing the most memorable thing that day, good or bad! Shirt remains unwashed for the whole trip.
Yellow shirt for Wednesday to Dan Kewley (unanimous decision) for stepping in at very short notice to join White watch in delivering the boat to Vigo pending the arrival of Chris Atherton after playing for the victorious St Helens College team in the Under 21 Carnegie Cup Rugby League Final, result 28-18…well done Chris and a big thank you to Dan from Rona II.
Best wishes
Skipper, RonaII
